Taxes Questions and Answers

Why did my federal refund amount shrink after I entered in a second W2?

Answers: Making twice as much does not double your tax. It increases it by MORE THEN DOUBLE. This is why it is not worth working more with high taxes. They do not just kill the rich, they want to kill everyone. But have no fear. No matter who is president next year taxes are going higher.
Because your tax return is based on ALL of your income, not just the first W-2.

And note, if you put single/2 on each job, you probably didn't have enough withheld.
Because your income went UP while the percentage of tax withheld remained static. The withholding tables assume you have one job only.

Ignore the running refund number until you COMPLETE your return and it's ready to file. Until you get to that point it's both meaningless and confusing.
Because your income went up! Your income may have climbed to a higher tax bracket as well. You may have had less withholding on your 2nd W-2. Check your W-4s. Finish the return to see if there are any adjustments along the way. You can contribute to an IRA before 4-15, and that may lower the tax owed.

Will I take a duty rebate check?

I am single with no kids. I made $29,000 contained by 2007. Will I be able to receive a levy rebate check? or is this really for people who are married and own children?

Answers: The answer to your question is adjectives over the internet; while the bill hasn't been made bureaucrat this is where it stands for very soon:

Under the agreement announced by the White House, Boehner and Pelosi, individual taxpayers would get up to $600 surrounded by rebates, working couples $1,200 and those beside children an additional $300 per child. In a switch concession to Democrats, 35 million families who brand name at least $3,000 but don't rate taxes would get $300 rebate.

The rebates would phase out leisurely for individuals whose adjusted gross income exceeds $75,000 and for couples next to incomes above $150,000. Contributions to IRA and 401(k) retirement accounts and health funds accounts would not count toward the income limit.
The rebate bill hasn't be signed, so officially nobody know.

Under the current proposal, single people near kids would qualify.
If the proposal passes as currently worded, you would win a $600 rebate.

Tax Question: Hope credit? Should I purloin it?

Okay. I'm filing my taxes online, on H&R Block Taxcut. So far my settlement is supposed to be 326 federal. Then I got to the credit branch, where I could enter my tution information. After I finished that, it said:

Choose Your Education Credit Education:
Based on your entries, you qualify for the toll breaks listed. To claim a tariff break, select it here.

-Hope Credit — Estimated tax hoard: $403
-Lifetime Learning Credit — Estimated tax money: $203
-Tuition and fees deduction — Estimated tariff savings: $100
- None

What should I choose? What are they? What are the differences?

Answers: I work for H&R Block and to use the hope credit you must be surrounded by your first two years of college and be at least a partly time student.
But if your tuition is more than $8200 you will get more by taking the lifetime research credit.
If you are a junior, senior or grad student or going to college less than partially time you can not use the Hope credit.
Can you claim your own exemption?
If no, you can't claim any of these.

If yes, are you a freshman or sophomore? Hope is limited to the first 2 years of college.
