I replaced my old siding on my home with new siding and tyvek insulation. Ca I get a energy credit?
Answers: Yes, you may claim an energy credit. Tyvek is an approved qualifying product. When claiming the amount of the deduction however, you may only deduct the cost of the Tyvek product, not the siding or installation costs.
There is no requirement that the siding, doors, windows, etc "had" to be replaced. It is the act of improving the insulation of the home that is the point. Certainly putting Tyvek around your entire home does a whole lot more in energy conservation than replacing a door. Energy conservation is the whole point behind this.
The link below will prove to you that Tyvek is a qualifying product.
The law provides a 10 percent credit for buying qualified energy efficiency improvements. To qualify, a component must meet or exceed the criteria established by the 2000 International Energy Conservation Code (including supplements) and must be installed in the taxpayer’s main home in the United States.
The following items are eligible:
Insulation systems that reduce heat loss/gain
Exterior windows (including skylights)
Exterior doors
Metal roofs (meeting applicable Energy Star requirements).
Manufacturers offering energy efficient items such as insulation or storm windows can assure their customers that their energy efficient items will qualify for the tax credit if certain energy efficiency requirements are met. The maximum credit for all taxable years is $500 — no more than $200 of the credit can be attributable to expenses for windows.
Tyvek, however, is not an insulation, it is a moisture barrier. I expect that there was an insulation "R" value for the siding, or additional insulation between the siding and the Tyvek. Your installer or supplier can provide you with the documentation to claim the credit.

The siding doesn't count as an energy credit.
If the tyvek is completely separate from the siding, then up to 10% of the materials cost is eligible. If the tyvek was a component of the siding, it's not eligible.
