Taxes Questions and Answers

Am I paying the right amount of duty and N.I?

I earn lb16,049 per year, and pay lb176.13 excise and lb99.44 N.I per month. Does this sound nearly right for the amount I earn? I am single, with no children. I can't support but wonder if i'm paying too much tax and N.I.

Are there any online tax preparation programs for the 1040ES (self-employed quarterlies)?

Answers: No.

Many people look at last year's return, find the tax and divide by 4.

Other people estimate their income and use form 1040ES to estimate the amount they need to send in to avoid estimated tax penalties.

Tax Question - Can a 1040EZ filer claim a 1098T?

My daughter wants to directory her own taxes. She is a full time college student and made about $4K end year with $270 withheld for federal. She have a 1098T from college. Can she incorporate this into her 1040EZ or should she file beside another form?

She has her own student loans (co-signed by my ex wife), etc.. lives within the dorm and stays with me on the week-ends.

Would she construct out better if I claimed her? ...if I could legally claim her ?

How does that work?

Help!

Answers: For lessons credits or the tuition and fees deduction, she would own to use form 1040 or 1040A.

Probably would make out better if you claimed her. You're probably contained by a higher export tax bracket than she is so, the deductions would be worth more. Also, next to as low as her income is, she'll probably have adjectives of the federal taxes she paid contained by returned to her anyway so, there couldn't be any optional credits or deductions given to her.

To do that, she would record as single but, would check the box that indicates that she is being claimed as a dependent on someone else's tariff return. (Again, because of her low income, she'll get the entire $270 returned to her anyway.) Then, you claim her as a dependent on your due return, and claim the education credits (or tuition and fees deduction) yourself.
