Can you claim head of household if you rent?
Answers: Maybe. Claiming head of household is independent of whether the filer owns or rents.
If you meet the rules. A rental is the same as owning for this purpose.
You need to be able to show that you paid more than half of the bills and that you have a qualifying relative that you can claim as a dependent living with you. (If you support a parent, there is a limited exception.)
If you are single, you do not qualify.
If you are living with a boyfriend or girlfriend, you do not qualify.
If you are living with a cousin, you do not qualify.
Head of Household requirements: you are unmarried, have a qualified dependent, and provide more than half the cost of keeping up your home. Ownership of the home you provide the dependent is not a factor.
With the new fed stimulous package, when can we expect to recieve this & how do we recieve it?
Answers: Checks will begin arriving in late May. The payment will be in check form, like an income tax refund check, arriving via mail. Your qualification is based on your 2007 income tax return.
The last I heard, the IRS was planning to mail out checks in May.

However, if you are trying to e-file and this is the drive you need it...in attendance is another option! You can merely E-file and then distribute them a single form (8453) with your signature. And, yes the free on procession programs allow this too.

Edit: Filing an 8453 doesn't slow the reimbursement in any process!
IRS.gov has a form to catch a free transcript of your 2006 return. Always keep copies when you do your returns.
