Answers: find out from the IRS
You won't have to file a tax return if your income is from wages subject to withholding and is less than $11,250 for 2007. However you won't owe any tax until your income exceeds at least $14,650.
Depending upon who your qualifying person is for HoH filing status and how many qualifying dependents you have and what type of dependents they are you may not owe any tax until your income exceeds $30,000 or more, possibly a LOT more.
For example a single parent with 4 children living at home would have to earn more than $55,000 in 2007 to owe any Federal income tax at all due to the impact of the Child Tax credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit! If they earned $60,000 they'd only owe about $700 in Federal income tax!
If you make $16,000.00 or less you can claim the earned income credit and get back everything you paid plus more.
If you made less than $50,000 you can go to the IRS website at: www.irs.gov and file your taxes on line for free. I do this every year for my daughter and it works out really good and the money gets deposited directly into her checking/savings account. The one I use off the site is www.olt.com, you can use them or pick another one.
Good luck and have a great day!
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE THEY ARE GETTING THEIR ANSWERS FROM? I HAVE THE SAME QUESTION BUT I NEED RESOURCES TO BACK IT UP.
I started living beside my boyfriend again on Jan.13. I use to profile my taxes as single. How do I wallet this Feb.?
I live in Canada and I know the export tax return is on Feb. 2008 for the year 2007.Answers: In Canada, The rules say that you hold to have lived beside him for a full 365 days to be common-law.
So, since you have not lived near him for a year, you file as a single individual.
The poster above is correct about the definition of adjectives law marital.
But that's really irrelevant, since (assuming you meant you moved contained by Jan 13 of 2008), you were not even living together on Dec 31, 2007. The import tax filing you're referring to, which by the path is due April 30, 2008, not Feb, is for the 2007 tax year. Therefore, any mention to marital status refers to status on Dec 31, 2007. What happen in 2008 won't issue until next year, when you will work bad your status on Dec 31, 2008.
That depends on whether you started living together in January of 2008 or January of 2007. It also depends if you lived together for 12 months or more finishing time.
You do have to update the wedded status with CRA as soon as the modification takes effect - check this intertwine to apply your own situation to the guidelines:

The types of things this arrangement can impact are:
GST credits (only one per family, and your income will be combined)
CTB - if you hold kids, your income will be combined when determining family income
equivalent to spouse - if you own children, and were claiming one as an equivalent to spouse, you will not be capable of do so if you are living together
