A previous employer go out of buisiness?

I have not received my w2- it looks as though the owner have fled the country or gone to jail. All I necessitate is the "federal employer i.d.number. any ideas??

Were you working for this employer second year? Did you keep a copy of your due return, including the Employee Copy of your W-2? If so, the federal employer i.d. number will be on that. If you had your taxes done by a attorney, accountant, or tax service, they may enjoy kept a copy of your return and they could help you. If you unquestionably can't get a hold of your return from concluding year, ask among your fellow employees. Maybe one of them keep good rates records and could endow with you the employer's federal i.d. number.

Am I required to hold Federal Income Tax withheld from my pay packet?

If I claim exempt from withholding, do I still need to wallet Federal Income Tax return and pay taxes?

Answers: If you are single and can't be claimed as a dependent on anyone else's export tax return, you must file a return if you made over $8,750 surrounded by the year, regardless of how much taxes were taken from your paycheck, or what you claimed on your W-4.

Claiming exempt on your W-4 does not automatically be going to that you don't owe taxes, or that you don't need to wallet a return. That form is simply to report to your employers how much to withhold from your paycheck.

If you do claim exempt, and you do label more than $8,750 in the year, you will owe the IRS for adjectives the taxes that should have be withheld from your paychecks.
P,

There's a few factors that are needed since you can get an accurate answer. Are you self employed? The amount of AGI earn while self employed is a deciding factor.

Basically the inevitability info is
-is it income reported on a 1099 or W2
-how much did you make

Bottom smudge is that you should always report. If you do not, then you are adjectives out a year of earning credits from your adjectives social security benefits. You may own the though "SS won't be there when I retire" I'm not even going in that, but if you become disabled and begin to receive SS disability, the amount of money you receive will be base on the SS taxes. SO, bottom line...record your taxes. Plus this year the exemption amounts have be raised as powerfully as the EIC...earned income credit.
You if truth be told DON'T have to, but you're going to pay packet it in the wind up, so it's better to have it taken out adjectives along rather than obtain hit with it at one time, come tariff time. I was a consultant, and file as a 1099, which meant I didn't reward the Fed UP FRONT...but, boy, did I pay surrounded by the end.

You can also reward by sending in quarterly payments, as okay...options, option.
You can claim exempt from withholding if you fall lower than the rules relating to the exemption.

However, that does not exempt you from filing a export tax return. In fact, if you claim exempt from withholding, prepare your return and it is determined that you owe taxes, you could be charged a cost for underpayment of taxes.

I jam-packed exempt on my W-4 by mistake and i am aware that i owe. Do I still quallify for a repayment?

I have two dependents and i quallify for the low income braquet. Will the amount owed be deduct from that?

Answers: If you had no taxes at adjectives withheld from your paychecks, you won't get a return, even with adjectives your credits (you can't get a return, which is overpaid taxes, if you didn't pay any to initiate with).

Make sure you change your W-4 near your employer ASAP.
I hope not since you didn't pay anything. Your cost for not paying taxes could be higher than the rebate check is anyway.
