Taxes Questions and Answers

Im doing my state taxes and I call for a academy code??

I cannot find anything on the internet.. I live in PA..
anyone know a accurate site to find it on?

Answers: I live in Pennsylvania as very well. This site is PA Revenue site. It's incredibly easy to find your codes here.

http://www.revenue.state.pa.us/revenue/C...
It's programmed on the FASFA website, all the conservatory codes. Also your school should hold it as well surrounded by the registrar's office. Here's the connection http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/FSLoo... (if that doesn't work go to fafsa.ed.gov and click look up college codes)

If i can't find my 2006 returns will i not be able to do my 2007 return?

Answers: You don't need your prior year's return to file the current years. You will be just fine
Yeah, you'll be OK. If you use Turbotax, it'll pull all the contact info and stuff forward for you.

Only thing other than that is stocks and investment losses. Need to keep track of losses over $3000 per year as they carry forward.
If you do need some information from your 2006 tax return, go by your local IRS office and request a transcript of account, this is a line by line information you reported on your tax return. If not call IRS at 1-8OO-829-1040 and request they give the information over the phone.

I am trying to file my taxes with my last paystub of the year how do I find the ein or tax id # w/o having w2s

Answers: you will have to wait to get your w-2 to get the ein
Two things you can do:

1. Call the company (your employer/ex employer) ask for accounting and tell them you need their tax id for taxes.

2. You don't have to submit the W-2. You should be able to say that you are estimating the amount and check a box to indicate this.
You can call the company's headquarters and ask for it, or if you worked for the same company last year, you can look at your W-2 from last year to get the info. You will also need their corporate address. Many companies now let you get your W-2s on line as well so tell them why you are looking for the information. Also note, they are required to mail all tax info by today Jan 31st (unfortunately it is rarely enforced but you might be able to use that as leverage to get them to fax you the info).

Caution 1: Be sure that the company does their own payroll. Many corporations use payroll companies in which case you would use the payroll company's address and employer identification number (EIN).

Caution 2: If you have pre-tax deductions (health or dental insurance to name only two possibilities) your pay stub may not reflect the lower taxable amount earned. It would be lower than your total earnings on your stub and you could be overtaxed.

At this point, unless you have moved and not notified the company (tax documents are generally not forwarded), your tax info should be in the mail within a day or two so it may be better to wait. Otherwise, call the company and ask for a replacement W-2.

Good luck!
