Uniform and equipment rates deductable??

I'm from az. I've started work with the dept. of corrections. and be wondering is my uniform allowance check for 300.00 that was tax is deductable. Also any other items like doc jacket and utility belt adjectives i've saved receipts. Can this be excise deductable? All items total close to 500.00 for 3 months on the job.

Answers: Many unreimbursed hand expenses can be counted as miscellaneous deductions if you itemize on Schedule A.

First, you hold to be able to itemize deduction...not take the "standard deduction".
Then, the individual problem is that these deductions don't do you any dutiful until they come to more than 2 percent of your adjusted gross income. That finances a worker with an AGI of $30,000 must hold expenses of more than $600 before the expenses are deductible.

And even consequently, only the amount over $600 counts.

Now i be advised seeing as i am living on my own and i am not financially ably off, to record single and say that not a soul could claim me. Hence i would receive more money back. Now my mother told me she would be claiming me. With the foreign checks from the gov, not only does that screw me out of taxes, but that check as in good health. I have 4 younger sisters that my mother will also be claiming, and both my mother and father own well paying job. They will be receiving a butt nouns of money, and ill still be scrape for rent. Considering my situation, would it be a large promise if i claimed single with not a soul to claim me? My mother has four other children to claim, and have not done her taxes yet. Its not that i am greedy, i newly need the money. hold in mind this is runeye.com not opinion please. thanks

Answers: It's complicated. IF you be a full-time student for 5 months of 2007 or if you earned smaller number than $3400 in 2007, your parents slip away the income test.

If your parents supplied over partially of your "support" for 2007 (including fair-market rent, food, and a share of utilities for the time you were living at home), they go by the "support" test.

Those are the lone tests contained by question. See IRS Publication 501 for the definition of "support", and possibly some things I've missed.
Your Mother does own every right to claim you for last year, since you be living in her home and demonstrably she was supporting you. Since she have other children, it may not make any difference (Tax..Legally) if she allowed you to claim yourself. That is something you stipulation to discuss with her.
