If this is not true, is there a set amount you take for filing single?Answers: umm..no. and if you come up to be talking give or take a few the reabte later this year, later the most you would get would be similar to $600
No.no truth to that.
There set deductions for a Single being but there is no set return that you automatically get.
Some single relations get refund..some owe..It all depends on your imaginative situation.

Can a person claim his wife on his taxes even if she worked for 4 months?
Answers: Your question leaves out some information.
You have a couple of choices. You and your husband can file in one of two ways..
Married filing jointly (which is usually in your best interest)
Or Married filing seperately.
Regardless of the length of how long was worked, you would be obligated to file under the law.
Claim her?
No, you simply file a joint return.
You do not know what "claim" means. This couple would file a joint return. Working 4 months or 5 months or 2 months has nothing to do with anything.
When you file a return you can claim personal exemptions. In this case each spouse would claim 1. If you are over 65, blind, or disabled, you can claim additional personal exemptions. This is a different number than claiming dependents, which is quite another story.
You are supposed to claim your spouse as an exemption (unless you have determined that you would come out better as married filing separately.)
Without more details, I'm not really sure what you are asking, or which way you would come out better--if you can't figure it out on your own, take it to one of the budge tax prep places like H & R Block or buy Turbotax software to help you do it yourself.
The more exemptions you claim on your W-2 with your employer, the less they will take out of your paycheck, but it is likely you will either get less refund back OR have to pay some taxes if they didn't withhold enough. The less exemptions you claim on your W-2, the opposite is true--more withheld each paycheck, BUT more likelihood of a refund or at least no/less taxes due.
SO, claim whatever you think will make it come out right on your W-2 with your employer. It may take trial & error for a couple of years, and you may have to readjust it if you get a raise, your wife starts or stops working, or they change the tax laws again.
But on your tax return, claim ALL the exemptions you are elegible for to keep from having to pay more taxes OR to get the biggest possible refund.
You don't "claim" a spouse. You can file a joint return though.
