Taxes Questions and Answers

Employer will not have W2's until after January 31. They say they should have them by Feb 2. Is this legal?

Answers: tax forms are required to be postmarked,, not received, by 1/31. The IRS doesn't consider them late until 2/15.
Technically, you may say they are late but I do not think you can go as far as calling it illegal. You have until April 15 to have your taxes in the hands of the IRS, hence, you still have plenty of time. Getting the w2 form by Feb. 2 is not something you need to sweat.

Do I have to pay taxes if I bring money from other country. I sold a property on Mexico?

Answers: If you are a US resident and made a profit on the sale, you will need to pay taxes. If you are not a US resident, and paid taxes to the Mexican government for the sale of the property, you will not need to pay US taxes.

You cannot bring more than $10,000 US across the border. If you try, they will confiscate the money and detain you for questioning and background check.
