Can i claim my down payment and my closing cost for my house in my taxes?
Answers: No, not the down payment and not most closing cost. You can deduct interest and taxes you paid at closing including points.
I do think that your closing costs are deductable.
Please talk to an accountant or a tax professional.
or check out turbotax and tell it that you moved and it can figure it out for you.
COngrats on yoru new home!
years ago I had to take a loss on the house we had purchased - and I could not take in on the house sale sheet - it was a zero as we could not put a negative number
HOWEVER
I claimed moving expenses since we moved more than 65 miles away from the previous residence - AND you could take the moving fees - PLUS the real estate fees for closing OFF the moving expenses - (closing costs of prev residence sale)
that made me have a profit on the house (LOL)
and I was able to write off the "losses" - so we made out like a bandit!
THEREFORE - check the moving expense form - see if the 65 miles applies to this year - and you may be able to do it, too!
all the best

The part of your closing cost that represents interest, including points, is deductible. If any real estate taxes were part of the closing costs, those would be also. These items can only be deducted if you itemize, though.
Your down payment is NOT deductible.
