How does the irs determine how much federal and state tax an individual owes?
Answers: The IRS has a Tax Rate Schedule every year showing how much taxes each person has to pay depending on how they file (single individual, married filing jointly, etc.).
The IRS has nothing to do with State income taxes; those are administered by the States.
The IRS determines how much tax you owe based upon what you put on your tax return. You know what you owe before they do since you prepare the return yourself.
look up tax tables on line at irs.gov. It will show the the total tax owed on your taxable income.
You will have to prepare a tax return to determine your taxable income.
Federal Internal Revenue Service has nothing to do with state taxes. Look up your state tax tables in the same way.
How to saturate out a 1099?
I am filling out a 1099 to confer to an independent contractor. I filled out the top partially of the form for them and put the amount of income into box 7. Now, do I fill out the bottom partially twice for the one person or do I start out the bottom blank since I cant cut the form in partially. Do I send the red copy surrounded by with my taxes or do I distribute it in very soon to the IRS? I know I have to get hold of this to the independent contractor by the 31st. Can I hand deliver this or must it be mail?Answers: If you only settle one contractor, you only saturate out one of the sections. You check the cancelled box on any unused sections.
You dispatch the red copy (both the 1096 and the full 1099 page (copy A)) to the IRS by February 28.
You send copies B and 2 of the single partition to the contractor, either contained by person or by letters, by January 31.
In some states, you may need to distribute copy 1 to the state by a deadline set by the state.
You keep copy C for your collection. (I usually keep a photocopy of copy A, instead, but that's the route the instructions are written.)
