What's the best channel to write sour my home department?
I am about to profile my taxes using Turbo Tax. I am a W2 sales representative for a company located out of state. So, I work within my home office. How much should I write bad? I don't want to raise any red flags and basis an audit, but I want to get a rational deduction.Answers: if your using the home bureau edition on turbotax it should talk you through the integral home office estimate process and after you finish it provides a red flag audit just cause sure you don't skip any steps
The write-off is based on square footage of the home organization vs. total square footage of the house. Based on that percentage, you can write off mortgage interest, actual estate taxes, home repairs, utilities, etc - as well as depreciation on the cost of the home. You can also write-off 100% of expenses directly related to the home bureau (i.e. computer, etc). But make sure the home department is used 100% for business - and isn't just your bedroom near a computer in it.
From experience, the IRS looks closely at home department deductions - so be sure to enjoy accurate records.
Your option are to take the square footage of your home and divide it by the square footage of your bureau to determine the % of the expenses you may deduct for the cost of the space (mortgage, taxes, insurance, grill, light, trash, hose, maintinance etc.
OR
You can total the number of room in the house not including the bathrooms or kitchen and take off that % (Example- 5 rooms - 1 room out of 5 used as office = 20% deduction)
The other answers are fitting, but I'll add some suggestion. Make sure it is strictly for your business and not a dual purpose room where you use the computer surrounded by the day for work next use it at night to play on the web. You can lose the deduction surrounded by a case approaching that.

If not, then it is semi-legal for them to money via 1099 income.
That gives you the potential to write off unreimbursed expenses as a Self Employed individual.
devout luck
The company blew it.
Add the income to your wages. Add form 8919 to your tax return. That will tolerate you pay the missing FICA payroll due at 7.65%. You'll see the obvious check sour on the form as to why you are filing form 8919 instead of rota C/SE.
