Taxes Questions and Answers

What is the contribution rates for 2.2 million dollars?

I want to enter the HGTV dream home giveaway and I need to know the contribution tax contained by $ or percent.
Thanks :-)

Answers: you misunderstand

gifts received are not taxable in the US. [gifts given are -- if significant enough.]

however, winnings contained by prize competitions or lotteries are taxed as standard income.

thus, if you won, you'd have to pay cheque income tax on 2.2 million [plus your majority income taxes]. Federal income taxes would be ~35% [$750,000 and change]

Why is it doing this? Tax return & IRS page cross-question?

I went to irs.gov to check the status of my reimbursement (which I've been waiting for since the 20th of January) and when I typed my information contained by, it told me that it was wrong, so it asked me a few more question, and then told me that THOSE answers be wrong. I don't get it - I lately checked it this morning and I know it wasn't a typo because I tried 4 or 5 times and even had someone examine me put the information in. Someone seem to think it's because I'm getting audited. Is anyone else have issues with the website?? I KNOW my information wasn't wrong and immediately it's kicked me off for an entire week.

Answers: Its be happening to abundantly of people today...including me...any the IRS is updating its website and/or you have checked your status too heaps times today...if you call the number it will tender you the status...I called and have to call stern a couple of times because it said my SSN was not found...unusual I know..hopefully this means we will be getting our refund soon...
That happend to me last year and the principle for mine was because they put everything contained by my husbands name and I be entering all of my info. I would give the name the IRS and see what is going on. If you can't find the number then ring up an H&R Block. Sometimes it can be Child Support, being audited, or if you are have problems with bill collectos next they can intercept.

Me and my wife basically be married within August 07'. How should we riddle out our taxes?

My wife was surrounded by college and lived in a house on campus from January 07-April 07 and consequently only lived beside her father for 3 months or so. Do we both get claimed lower than our parents as dependents ? Do we still fill out that we are married innards together? How do we go in the order of this? Her father is really pushing to have her budge down as a dependent when she only lived near him for 3-4 months total so he gets more deduction. Should only she directory as a head of house hold and not me? What do we do!!??

Answers: I would suggest file Married filing in somebody`s company... In that case you are both claimed on your export tax return. Her father cannoth claim her.

Your wife is not eligible for HOH because she is married.

Your only other selection is to each File MFS (Married file separately). Her father can claim her in this satchel.

That being said... I notably discourage you from filing MFS. It results surrounded by higher taxes 99% of the time. It disallows you for lots credits and deductions... On top of that, the IRS audits more MFS filers than any other group.
YOu should record as "married filing as one."

You would have to ask a tariff person in connection with her father and what him claiming her as a dependant would do to your taxes. I am not sure on that one.
If your wife earned satisfactory income in to support herself more than 50% and she is over 18, after her father cannot claim her. In that case, you and she should wallet married filing reciprocal if that is better than married file separate (it usually is.)
