I'm 20 years older i hold a 6 month antiquated i live next to my parents still i own a position and my dad be wondering...?
if he can claim me?? i'm trying to file my taxes and i dont know what to do really... if he can claim me should i tolerate him or should i tell him that i'm file single and what happens if he does claim me does that plan i cant claim my daughter? thank you all for your backAnswers: If you're not a "full time student" (for 5 months of the year) and earn more than the standard exemption amount ($3400) your parents MAY NOT claim you as dependent. Who may claim your daughter as a dependent is complicated, basically depending (!) on who provided most of her "support". As "support" includes the event rental value of housing (assuming you don't wages rent to your parents), this becomes complicated.
If you provide over 50% of her support, you may claim her.
If (your parents directory a joint return) and THEY provide over 50% of her support, they may claim her.
If not a soul taxpayer provides over 50% of her support, then adjectives those who provide over 10% need to agree (on a multiple support form) which of them can claim her as a dependent.
The rules for the earn income credit and the child credit may be slightly different, but I haven't researched them after the recent unification.
I would like to coopt and repress some advice from one of the other answers, if I may. If you purchase a excise preparation program, such as TurboTax or TaxCut, you can run the figures both ways if it's a "questionable" situation at no additional cost. A professional import tax preparer will usually charge additional fees for alternative calculation.
www.irs.gov.
your dad may be able to claim you and the toddler as long as your income is not that high.
he can claim you for letting you live in attendance and you can also file your own taxes, you merely have to engineer sure how you and he answer the questions.
Or do it both ways in black and white and see which way give the greatest return and split the money,
What you and your dad need to settle on is who would benefit more from the deduction.
In other words, if he's making $60k and uses you and your infant as a deduction, that could imply an extra $2000.00 on his return. (That's just a made up digit, of course). Whereas if you are making less than $20k and claim the babe-in-arms and yourself that would mean smaller quantity of a return. However, if you qualify for Earned Income Credit because of day trouble expenses your return might be even larger than his.
I would go to one of the export tax preparation sites (there are some that will let you do it for free but if you want to record or print your return you have to settle up around $30.00) and each of you do it both ways and see who ends up beside more money. Whoever gets the most should profile that way and both of you can share the difference.
Do it both ways. If you made adequate money to file taxes, afterwards you have to database. However, you can file as single beside no dependants and head of household if you made a fully clad wage. If not, and you can get out of file them, he can claim you as a dependant, but needs to claim your daughter for the earn income credit. That is where the central money will come from. He can file you as a dependant and you still report as long as you do not file chief of household. With your age he cannt get the earn income credit on you though.
Is there a faster way to receive your W2 besides waiting for it to come in snail mail?
Answers: If you currently work for that company, you can simply go to the HR department and ask if your W2 is now ready
If it is for a different company or previous company you've worked for, then there is no other way but to wait for the W2 to come via snail mail
W2s are presently not available online.
Some companies post w2's on a web site but that is rare. The majority send them via snail mail so you have to wait :(
