Rebate Check from Gov't...Will I obtain one?
I'm 17 years old, already file my taxes and made over $3500 last year. Should I expect a rebate check? I thought I hear somewhere that if I am claimed on my parents' taxes, I won't get a reimbursement.Answers: If your parents claim you as a dependent, you will be ineligible for the rebate, but you may still benefit under the plan.
While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is in actual fact a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the proposed plan, in 2008, taxes would be cut from 10 percent to nil percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.
So if you have taxable income contained by 2008, you will see a tax cut when you directory in 2009.
If your parents claim you as a dependent you will not receive one because they are ultimately taking trouble of you.
This is if your talking more or less the refund everyone is suppose to obtain in May or june.
If you be climed on your parents taxes neither of you will get a rebate on you.
Will I acquire more for my child?
In many cases, nearby is a rebate bonus for children. But not for all kids.
For rebate purposes, a qualify child is one who is younger than 17. That means that taxpayers who claim an elder college student as a dependent won't get the extra money.
Neither will college kids themselves be merry. The rebate bill specifically makes dependents, or even those who could be claimed as a dependent, ineligible for the rebate. So students who can be claimed by parents won't acquire rebates even if they held job outside class that otherwise would have qualified them for the money.
"The kid may own $3,000 in income, but his parents are paying much more for his college expenses so he's a dependent," say Bob D. Scharin, RIA senior tax analyst form Thomson Tax & Accounting. "It does seem to be unfair that the child can't claim the rebate."
