Is this individual a dependent?

I am 19 years old and my girlfriend is 17. She have lived with me contained by the state of GA since July 2007. She has not worked and have been dependent on me for everything. Her mother and Father are not claimin her and she is not file taxes because she didnt work. Can I claim her as a non-relative dependent on my Tax-Act form? My wages this year totalled 26,000.00. Will my return be flagged by the IRS if I claim her? What are the chances?

Thanks

Answers: Not for this year, a qualify relative must live with you for adjectives 12 mos of the year. If the situation continues you could claim her next year as long as she earn less than her standard exemption which is $3,400 for this year.
If what you state if correct after she would be your qualifying relative and no it would not flag your return.

Answers: The answer is no, at tiniest for 2007. She would have have lived with you for adjectives of 2007 in writ to be your dependent.

On another matter, your living arrangements cannot be surrounded by violation of local regulation. I do not practice in GA, and I don't know if cohabitation is off the record there. There is a adequate chance, however, that your living arrangement is private based on your ages.

I would strongly insist on that you consult with a local attorney over that event. You do not want to find yourself in despoliation of criminal statutes.
I think GA might be one of the places where on earth there are law against cohabitation by unmarried couples. If so, you can't claim her even if the laws are no longer enforced.

In any overnight case, since she didn't live with you ALL year, no she doesn't qualify as a dependent.
No.

She would've have to have lived beside you all year.

If your situation doesn't amendment, you may be able to claim her subsequent year. To the best of my knowledge, cohabitation is not evil in Georgia. So, if she lives next to you 1/1-12/31 and does not work, you should be able to claim her subsequent year but not this year.

Can you use 2006 Turbo Tax to folder this year's charge return?

Just wondering.

Answers: No the IRS will reject your efile. Either purchase the 2007 tax year program or budge online to turbo tax - you can free efile beside them if you made less than 28000. If you made smaller amount than 54000 HR Block lets you free efile online.
I doubt it. There are too masses changes contained by the tax rules respectively year to use an old text. But they'll usually give you a rebate towards the purchase of the bright year's version.
