Taxes Questions and Answers

If daughter was born in jan 2008 can i list her as DEPENDENT on 2007 taxes?

Answers: No. She was not around in 2007.
No. She would have had to have been born no later than December 31 at a minute before midnight on New Years Eve. The filing status is determined in most instances as what it was on December 31, which then counts for the whole year. If she was born on Jan 1, 2008 at a minute AFTER mindnight or later, then she is a dependent for 2008. Sometimes a minute here or there makes a very big difference.

You will make up for it on the back end, either when she turns 19 or 24 if a full-time student; that's when you lose her as a dependent. You get to keep her for the last, full year.
Was she a dependent in 2007?

Umhh, the answer is obviously "no".
That may be the stupidest question every posted. You probably should not be doing your own taxes.

Ok sorry i did get a 1099-R for this year but can i wait till next year to claim the withdrawl?

Answers: NO! that would be considered tax evasion, if you already filed, you will need to do an ammendment, you can do your own or have someone do it for you, that money must be claimed and you will need to pay the penalty on early withdrawl if you do not qualify for exceptions and were under 59 1/2 years old.
If the 1099-R says 2007, then you file it now, with this year's tax return - no, you can't wait until next year.

How the hell do I do my taxes?

I am a stay at home mom. My boyfriend and I live together and he provides our sole support. However, everything is in my given name. House, 2 cars, all utilities etc. Do I still basically claim 0 income even though technically, I am receiving money from my boyfriend?

Answers: First, stop cursing, please. Renegade and Ernie are right...you own no income, so you don't file taxes.
no you own no income.do separate returns or have him claim you as a dependent.
the irs doesnt know who's cross the bills are in - nor do they aid. they want to know who is making money and want to get their hand on any owed tax money asap.
if you complete a import tax return you will pay no rates. he will.
btw is this a financial safe situation? what if your bf passed away...are you the beneficiary on his existence insurance. you would be in a tough spot if something go wrong. you need to look into this:)
seam like you should permit your boyfried clain you morgage taxes since he did pay the bills. and since you are relying on support from him he should claim you as a dependent.

You cannot report a tax, becuase you enjoy no taxable income.
As you have no income nearby is no need for you to report.

If you own the home yourself, your b/f can NOT claim the mortgage interest or property taxes that he paid, contrary to what one clueless poster states! To claim those deduction one has to both be reasonably obligated for the payments and actually engineer the payments. Since he's not on the mortgage or deed he does NOT win a deduction since he's not reasonably obligated for the payments.

On the other hand, he probably CAN claim you as a dependent. If you lived together adjectives year AND you had smaller amount than $3,400 in gross income (excluding untaxed Social Security) AND he provided more than partially of your total support for the entire year AND there is no local ruling prohibiting cohabitation (even one that is unenforced) THEN he can claim you as a dependent on his due return. (He cannot file as Head of Household base upon your dependency though as you are not a qualifying individual for HoH filing status.)
