Taxes Questions and Answers

I work and also collect ssi can i still file taxes? also would i get a refund back?

Answers: If you work, and you have an income of more than 2000 in the year, you have to file taxes.

You're refund or what you owe to the IRS is determined by how much taxes you paid (through various ways, not just employee wage taxes) versus how much you made.

You can do it for free on turbotax.com or other sites, or you can pay around 25-200 to do it at a tax service. If you don't know what you are doing, you should take all of your paperwork to a tax service. You can deduct what you pay them to prepare your taxes this year on your 2009 filing.
Yes, you can still file a tax return. To determine whether you get a refund or owe money depends on how much was made, deductions, marital status, etc. There if not enough information to make that determination.

Medical allowance drawn in a year exceeding Rs 12000/- is taxable.

Can we file our taxs now especially with this whole tax rebate thing? Is it true we have to wait till 1/16/08?

Answers: You can file your 2007 Federal Income Tax whenever you want. It will have no impact on your rebate. Any rebate that becomes law will be sent to you automatically. You won't have to do anything.

Under the terms of House bill, individual taxpayers would get up to $600 in rebates, working couples $1,200 and those with children an additional $300 per child under the agreement. Families who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.

The amount of the proposed rebate depends on how much taxes you paid on your 2007 return. If you are single, you would be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $600 if you paid that much in Federal Income Tax. If you only paid $350 in taxes (less than the $600 rebate limit), you only get back $350.

If you had over $3000 in income, you would qualify for the $300 minimum.

Nothing has passed Congress yet, so everything is subject to change.
Hi Dee Dee. I don't think the projected tax rebate affects any tax filing deadlines. Unfortunately.. You had better call your local IRS office!

Go ahead and file. If a rebate is passed and you are eligible, you'll get it. 1/16/08 is past.
