Taxes Questions and Answers

Tax problem. I worked for a company that go broke and they did not convey out W-2's. What to do?

This happened subsidise in February and there's no trace of them anymore. I do not hold any paystubs...it was a year ago. Not sure what to do...do I guess?

Answers: If phone or contacts to your employer are unsuccessful and it is after February 15th, contact the IRS at (800) 829-1040. An IRS representative can initiate a Form W-2 (PDF) complaint. Form 4598, Form W-2 or 1099 Not Received or Incorrect, will be sent to the employer and a copy will be sent to you along with Form 4852 (PDF), Substitute for Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, or Form 1099-R, Distributions from Pensions, Annuities, Retirement or Profit-Sharing Plans, IRAs, Insurance Contracts, etc. The copy that the employer receive will advise him or her of the employer's responsibilities to provide a correct Form W-2 (PDF) and of the penalty for failure to do so. When you beckon the IRS or visit an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC), please own the following information available:

Your employer's name and complete address, including closure code, employer identification number (if certain - see prior year's Form W-2 (PDF) if you worked for the same employer), and mobile number,
Your name, address, including fastener code, social security number, and mobile phone number; and
An estimate of the wages you earned, the federal income export tax withheld, and the period you worked for that employer. The estimate should be base on year-to-date information from your final pay stub or leave-and-earnings statement, if at all possible.

If you file your return and attach Form 4852 (PDF) to support the withholding amount claimed instead of a Form W-2 (PDF), your repayment can be delayed while the information you gave us is verified.
If you don't enjoy any paperwork and want to keep clear conscience- and avoid possible audit- guess as close as you can- possibly they didn't withhold taxes, happens a great deal with failing companies. The state may enjoy some records of sum, maybe the federal TIN have records. It is possible that the company rewarded the tax obligation and you can get a return - you have to mention company on return to grasp the refund. IRS have some procedures for lack of accounts from failing companies- bankruptcy courts may own records and may enjoy collected taxes. If the amount earned is underneath $1000.00 the chances of trouble are slim- but mention it and ask for IRS archives, time for amended return to be prepared if they can provide them- this give a cost free grace period, no criminal hassle time while they look up documentation for you. Social Security may have documentation of payment - you would want that work history to be noted.

Do you ever enjoy to stop file your taxes?

My grandma has this impression that she doesn't have to record taxes anymore because she is of a certain age. I don't even know when the later time she filed be. She only collects social wellbeing but she has a mortgage she could write past its sell-by date and also a dependent. Should she go hindmost and file adjectives the past years she didn't record?

Answers: If the only income she is unloading is from her Social Security, than she does NOT need to profile. Since that portion of her income is NOT taxable, there is no obligation to file. MOREOVER: Since she doesn't owe taxes, she is not due a return. So she could not collect a compensation from the government for her mortgage, since within is no where for the return to come from. When you get a settlement, it is a refund on that near which you put in. Since she put nil in to the pot, in that is nothing from which to get hold of from.

On a side note:
Regarding the message you sent me.you don't adopt replies, or emails.so I cant respond to your inquiry. Is there another vehicle I can go in the order of addressing your message?
It's not her age, it's her income - if her singular income is social security, she doesn't hold to file. Since she doesn't owe any excise, she can't write off her mortgage income, since she doesn't hold any taxable income for it to reduce - and that's what deduction do, they reduce your taxable income.

Leave grandma alone - she's right that she doesn't enjoy to file and there's no benefit to her contained by filing.

We made $175,000 this year. Will we get any rebate at all?

Answers: Aw naw hell naw.

And yes, you will get a rebate if it passes.

no -- there'll be no special rebate for you.
