Taxes Questions and Answers

How do i claim workers comp as income?

Answers: Workers' compensation claims are not taxable. Amounts you receive as workers' compensation for an occupational sickness or injury are fully exempt from tax if they are paid under a workers' compensation act or a statute in the nature of a workers' compensation act.

If you return to work after qualifying for workers' compensation, payments you continue to receive while assigned to light duties are taxable. Report these payments as wages on line 7 of Form 1040 or Form 1040A, or on line 1 of Form 1040EZ.

I took payout from my 401K when I left my job. is there a website to go on to get the info needed for taxes?

Answers: They will send you a 1099 that will have all the necessary information on it that you will need to file your taxes.
. They should mail you a 1099R - hope you realize you will probably owe taxes and a penalty.

They are required by law to take out 20% however if the additional income throws you into a higher tax bracke, say 25% you will have to pay 5% more taxes on that disbursement plus cause you to have to pay higher taxes on all your taxable income. You will also have a 10% penalty for early distribution
Do you mean a place to explain how to included it on your tax return or the info from the transaction.

I hope it was not a lot or that you rolled it over because you will be hit with a penalty as well as having to pay the regular taxes on the amount unless you are over 59 1/2 or one of the other rules (doesn't sound like it)applies.
You might not be in bad shape on your taxes with the small lump-sum you received. If the amount you received was larger, you could have a bit tax bill to pay, You could go to irs.gov for details on how to take care of the distribution on your tax return. If the proper amount of federal income tax was withheld from your W-2's, then you may have a smaller refund because of the 401-k funds you received. However, if less than enough was withheld, & you owe before adding the 1099R income, you may have to pay a bit. Be careful if you go to get your taxes prepared, a lot of firms charge high fees to prepare your type of return.

He desires to re-do his 1040 for 2004 and 2005. He wasn't sure if he should have file then. I know he'll grasp back some money, but would love someone to point me contained by the right direction as to how to do this. Thanks in mortgage!

Answers: He would need to amend his departed tax returns by file Form 1040X for each year. In add-on to the 1040X, he will need to prepare another Form 1040 for respectively year, with the corrected amounts. The corrected 1040, as very well as a copy of the originally filed 1040, will obligation to be attached behind respectively 1040X before file.
This is a situation requiring the filing of an "AMENDED" return. It is only just as stupid as the original file but this is the place to start. He'll need copies of those 2004 and 5 returns.
