Taxes Questions and Answers

Can you file a child under 1yr on your taxes without a SSI#?

Answers: From the IRS:

My daughter was born at the end of the year. We are still waiting for a social security number. Can I send in my return and later supply the social security number for her?

If you file your return claiming your daughter as a dependent and do not provide her social security number on the return, the dependency exemption will be disallowed. You have two options. You could file your income tax return without claiming your daughter as a dependent. After you receive her social security number, you could then amend your return on Form 1040X (PDF), Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. You have three years from the later of the due date of the return or from the date the return was filed to amend the return.

The other option is to file a Form 4868 (PDF), Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. This would give you an additional six months to file your return; by then you should have your daughter's social security number.
No, you'll have to get a social security number for the child in order to claim her or him..

If you are going to be audited, they will send you a memorandum indicating what they are looking at and how they want to proceed.
Relax, my friend. If you are selected for an audit, you're going to go and get a written notification in the messages advising you of same. You will be given a sound amount of time to gather adjectives your records and documentation to appear at the programmed audit.

Audits are not determined on returns at the time of filing. They be in motion to a different unit which handle audits. Returns filed are routinely scrutinize for obvious arithmetic errors and are then processed. If you made a statistical error of some sort, it will be corrected on the spot, and your return processed as filed.

Any auditing comes at another time.
If they audit you, they'll transport you a letter any asking you to come in to their department or telling you they are coming out to your home, or sometimes freshly ask you to mail faultless info to them. They'll tell you what specific nouns of your return they want more information on. It doesn't sound similar to things have gone that far.

It does nouns like they are reviewing something roughly speaking your return and deciding whether to ask for more info. The computer kick out returns that have something on them that looks out of procession, and a human looks at it before it go any further. It doesn't mean you enjoy done anything wrong, just that something requirements additional look.
