Can the tariff commission do this?
I just found out that my state settlement is being held because of a bankrupcy. I've never file bankrupcy! My ex-husband did in 2005..2 years after we divorced! Can the state come after my return when I wasn't even married to the man when he filed for bankrupcy? This doesn't come across right to me. I've left a message beside the Legal Dept at the tax commission and I'm waiting on a hail as back. (no describing how long that will take) Anyone ever heard of this up before? Any suggestions on how I can find this cleared up? Thanks!Answers: If the debt he claimed on the bankruptcy be a community debt or in your signature also then the burden falls on you when he claimed collapse
Doesn't sound right - see what they enjoy to say.
Do I need to show any documents to my tax guy when I sold a house last year?
Answers: Take along any paperwork you got. If you owned the home and lived in it as your main home for at least 2 of the 5 years immediately before the sale, you probably won't owe any tax on the sale unless your profit was over $250K, or $500K if you file a joint return.
You will need the information from the 1099S you will receive. You will also need to know the adjusted basis of the house you sold to see if you have a gain or loss. The closing cost from the sale can be added to your basis along with other things. Read the irs publication selling your home
If I sell a stock at a profit but reinvest the money right away do I have to pay capital gains taxes?
Answers: Yes. But see the IRS's web site for a "wash sale"
Yes.
Regardless of what you do with the money, the gain is taxed.
Yes, you sure do.
And a "wash sale" only applies to a sale of a stock at a LOSS, not a profit.
