How do you obtain old group certificates for tax?
Answers: If you call the ATO they will advise you to get in contact with your old employers. These employers have an obligation to keep this information for 5 years. Depending on your situation (e.g left on bad terms, business has gone into liquidation) then this might not be an option.
If this is the case the next option would be to complete a statutory declaration form for each employer (free one available from http://www.ato.gov.au/content/downloads/... and complete with the best information you can. Old payslip will help, and so would old bank statements if you were paid via EFT. This is alot of work so the first option is preferable.
If you do not have any of this info available the last resort is to write into the ATO requesting copies of your 'Payer Submitted Payment Summaries'. You will need to provide the ATO with the ABN's, Business Name, Address and years that you require. The ATO will be able to provide you with this info only if your old employers have submitted a copy of your payment summary (group certificate) & be warned the processing time is 28 days - even longer if you cannot provide the employer information because it is more difficult to search. I would definitely be going option 1 or 2 before resorting to this.
If you need more information call 13 28 61 (ATO Personal Tax Infoline) They will give you a similar answer and let you know the correct address to send your written request to.
Hope this helps

Can you claim out of pocket dental expenses on your duty return?
I paid for teeth cleanings and x-rays out of pocket due to have no coverage.Answers: Yes. But, you can deduct just the amount of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your used to gross income (Form 1040, line 38).
(Here's an Example.)
Your used to gross income is $40,000, 7.5% of which is $3,000. You paid medical expenses of $2,500. You cannot subtract any of your medical expenses because they are not more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income.
If you wallet a 1040 Schedule A and can meet the income limitations on the estimate and IF you have adequate other Sch A expenses.
