At what age do you start claiming independent on your taxes?
I turned 21 in october, and I'm not sure if my parents can still claim me.Answers: if you sort more that 5350 or something close to that you can claim yourself, however if your parents completely support you you might want to clear it with them i started claiming myself at 18.
I assume you connote "At what age can you start taking an exemption for yourself" on your income tax return.
As long as your parents are supporting you, that would be after you get 18, unless you are still in conservatory. If you are a student pursuing a degree, next your parent(s) can claim you until you are 24.
If you're attending college, it would probably do you more good to be independent because of financial aid.
If you earn more than $3,400 in gross income, you usually cannot be claimed as a dependent, unless you are eligible as a "qualify child".
To be considered a "qualifying child", your parents must see that you touch the following conditions
:
1. The child must be your son, daughter, stepchild, foster child, brother, sister, half brother, partially sister, stepbrother, stepsister, or a descendant of any of them.
2. The creature either (a) must be related to you contained by one of the
ways listed underneath Relatives who do not have to live beside
(b) under age 24 at the wrap up of the year and a full-time you, or student, or (c) any age if permanently and totally disabled.
3. The child must enjoy lived with you for more than partly of
the year.
4. The child must not have provided more than partly of his or
her own support for the year.
5. If the child meets the rules to be a qualify child of more
than one person, you must be the individual entitled to claim
the child as a qualifying child.
If you be a full time student for some part of at tiniest 5 months of the year, they can claim you until the year when you turn 24 if they meet the other rules to claim you. The year you turn 24 they can't claim you any more as a qualify child. But if your income for the year is under the amount of an exemption for the year (for 2007 it be $3400) and they still provide over half of your support, they can still claim you but as a qualify relative, not a qualifying child.
My friend desires to claim her kid on her taxes but her parents provide for the newborn & her can she still claim?
she only worked for approaching 2 months in 2007 and that be way since the baby be even conceived so shes not providing for the baby her parents are! will she know how to claim the babyAnswers: NO -- the parents will claim the infant and the mother. They provided the support and are legally competent to defend the claim. They spent the money and 2 months of wages just provides for the baby and herself...
If her parents can claim her as a dependent, afterwards she can't claim the baby. Whether they can claim her depends on her age though. The most feasible situation is that her parents can claim her and they can also claim the baby.
Does anyone (other than accountants, H&R Block, charge consultants, etc. ?
..really know anything about our rates system?
I ask this because there are so so masses people who stir to tax preparers respectively year and PAY them to do something they could very resourcefully do themselves. I make a terribly good stipend but the IRS forms are relatively simple so I do it myself. Yet some of my friends - most of whom are college educated - won't even try! I have it in mind its not as though they can't read for goodness sake!
Answers: I've be doing my own for 30 years. It is simple . Especially since they give you step by step instructions.
Just because it's smooth doesn't mean near is no way you can screw it up. I'd to some extent trust a professional to handle my paperwork and file to ensure I get the maximum compensation. I presume many others of indistinguishable intelligence and education are similar to my husband and I. It's not that we can't do it, it's that we feel more comfortable putting it surrounded by the hands of professionals who are trained next to this stuff.
EDIT:
Wow. Defensive much? The woman who took care of mine and my husband's taxes in reality mentioned she spent years learning taxes and the law involved. Some people CAN swot this stuff in a concern of weeks. But it takes skill, background, and experience to really know the ins and outs well plenty to accurately prepare taxes and know the laws involved. Maybe it is natural to do, but I'd still rather trust the professionals.
I importantly doubt H & R block hires run of the mill schmucks off the streets to do a short time ago anyone's taxes. Come on now.
Does anyone know anything? Yes, oodles people know some things roughly speaking the tax system. No one know it all. H&R block does single the easy returns. Even my legal representative doesn't do his own [corporate] returns.
None of the members of congress know adjectives about the rates code. Do you know how many page there are surrounded by it? Every year there are more. I bet not a soul in IRS know all the due code. What a shame that the government can foist a system on its citizens that forces various, many of them to wage someone to get THEIR OWN money subsidise
We should change to a flat rate, or sale tax system and do away completely beside the IRS.
