How does one appendage up owing on Federal taxes?
I claimed the right amount of dependents so they "should" be taking out the right amout of money so I don't end up owing crazy amounts surrounded by the end... right? Isn't that how (in a sound world) it's supposed to work?Answers: Even if your withholding is correct for your filing status, other income and deductions/credits can affect the final charge due.
News flash! This is not a perfect world. If getting a charge refund on taxes you already remunerated (through payroll witholdings) is important to you, consequently you need to claim nought deductions on your W-4 form.

Does income earned in December of 2007 but not received until January of 2008 count towards your 2007 income?
Answers: Most individuals are on the cash basis. That means it is not income until you have it in our hands. So, no it doesn't count for 07 but will count in 08. If it is W2 income, your W2 will include it in the year you receive it, not the year you earn it.
It depends on what kind of income it is and it also depends on why it was not received.
If you got a paycheck dated 12/31/07, but did not pick up the check until January 2008, then it goes in your income for 2007.
If you worked December 16 - December 29th and your paycheck is dated 1/4/08 then it is 2008 income.
If you are a cash-based business and you sent out an invoice on December 26th and did not get paid until January 10th, then it is 2008 income.
However, if you are an accrual-based income, sent the invoice on December 26th and did not get paid until January 10th, then it is 2007 income.
