If it is short term, the gain will be added to your ordinary income, so some of it might be taxed in a higher bracket.
If it is long term, it will be taxed at 5% or 15% (2007), but it won't affect your ordinary income tax bracket. For 2008, the LT rates are 0 & 15%.
