1099 Tax Help, Here's My Situation?

I have worked as an independent contractor on a 1099 status at a company since June. Can anyone serve me with my file situation? What form(s) do I file? Where do I start? Also I involve help next to tax write-offs/deductions. I know I can receive away with a great deal working in the music industry, but any strong examples? I own almost $3000 in student loan interest, what nearly that? Also, with the motor mileage thing, can I write-off my miles to/from work? I know its resembling 48 cents per mile, but 26 miles per day for 6 months months seem like a great deal (adds up to like $1600). Any thoughts/tips/hints/suggestions/etc? I own no idea what to do. Anything it seem I'm not understanding correctly? Thanks

Answers: You'll entail a form 1040, a schedule C or C-EZ, and a programme SE. Your income and associated expenses go on the C, afterwards the number from the bottom of that goes on the SE and on the 1040. The number from the extremity of the SE will also go onto your 1040.

Your miles to and from work are commuting miles and aren't deductible. But miles driven for business purposes during your workday, or for things similar to picking up supplies whether during work hours or not, would be deductible.

Student loan interest has nil to do with your business, but up to $2500 of it can be taken as an adjustment on flash 33 of your 1040.

Whatever I buy in America before I return to England I can claim to the tax back, is this true?

Answers: Yeah and then pay the Duty back here.

might be best to keep quiet about it

Customs organisations especially the UK and US are very good at transferring information and what they would do is contact you after your return with a nice bill for duty as they would have your name, address and know exactly what you bought based on you US tax claim
Mostly no.

Sales tax isn't like the VAT, it's levied separately by each state, and the rules vary by state. There is no federal sales tax or VAT. Most states won't give you a refund of your sales tax, though a (very few) like Louisiana will. Some states will let you apply for tax-free status in advance of your visit.

Keep all receipts get a form,. fill it out,. return it,. wait for ages,. cheque comes through the post,. =)

though be careful, I think officially / legally if your buying bigger things,. I dunno say, a laptop you'd be expected to declare it upon entering/returning to the UK - and you'd have to pay duty on it...

Has anyone received ref # 1221 and then received there tax refund after receiving this code?

Answers: Wed. the site said to be deposit on 2/8, then I received that code. When I call the irs, they basically told me that they were reviewing my taxes. I was one of the randomly selected person to get my taxes reviewed and if it's not deposit on 2/8, then it will be deposit by the 2/15. So, far no change on the code.
Keep me posted if your status code changes.
The same thing has happened to me. I talked with 3 different IRS reps and they told me 3 different reasons. If you owe them any money they send off the difference really quick. If they owe you, they take their time. They are making it really hard for anyone to get any type of refund now because of that so called 'rebate check' that some people are getting. Call the IRS and find out why they pulled your file for review. Call them 3 different times throughout the day. When you call, play it off like you don' t know anything. Just ask for the status and you will get different answers. Try it. Call the 8OO-829-1040 and talk with a rep.
