Taxes Questions and Answers

Is this due compensation correct?

I made $13,413, the federal withheld was $953. I file single, have no dependents, received $119 contained by charitable deductions as in good health as moving expenses for work relocation. Turbo tax shows $401 as my reimbursement. Does this sound somewhat correct?

Answers: No, that's low. Your export tax liability would be $466. Subtracting that from $953 leaves a refund of $487.

Your charitable donations obtain you nothing, you'd inevitability more than $5,350 in deduction to make it worth itemizing. Don't know roughly the work relocation being worth anything as you didn't provide any details but if it did anything for you, your discount would be larger than $487.

This assumes that you cannot be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer.
With the moving expenses it depends on how far you moved.

How come some seniors age 65 who retired single find $1900 from Social Security?

One of my in-laws only get $1900 from retirement.

How can he survive with that if his gross income be $3400 per month before?

Answers: Social Security be never intended to support you completely in retirement. It's member of an overall retirement plan, but should NEVER be the ONLY source of income. If it's his only income after he didn't plan very okay.
It doesn't depend on the month before, but how much a individual has remunerated into SS over their lifetime.

He's got a nice do business; when I retire at 62 I'm only going to return with $900/month.
He wasn't supposed to spend every penny he made. He was supposed to pick up some.

His apparent letdown to do so will severely curtail his lifestyle.
Actually many those get much smaller number than that. It depends on their history of what they paid into the system. People do survive on smaller quantity income than that.

If he didn't have a retirement plan, and didn't rescue anything toward his own retirement, then he'll enjoy to figure out how to survive on what he get, or find a job to bring in up some of the difference. Social security be never intended to replace your total income for retirement.

I have almost $20,000 worth of ceramic molds, paint, equipment, and supplies to start up a business. I hold been trying to distribute it all away to a chaitible concern for the tax write bad. Any suggestions?

If these be used in business and be capital items, you may hold to recapture the depreciation and your charitable deduction would be the lower of the FMV or your in the swing of things basis ( Adjusted starting place is usually cost less accumulate depreciation).
Mark S raises some interesting question.

I have be an Enrolled Agent for many years. All the things he said are true. I also hold been contained by charge of a corporation for 33 years. So there is a verbs, to my advice.

Why do you want to donate it? The conjecture is pennies on a dollar...meaning if it is really worth $20,000 consequently you might get around 28% within return. It is not a good business judgment. However, if you really want to donate it then by adjectives means clutch the deduction if you can. But, if you truly sell the items and pay packet the tax you will squirrel away some money.

I have be doing taxes for a long time and I had a unadulterated good instructor. Your question raise several warning flags for me. I don't own solid advice for you because I don't know adjectives of the details.

But, needless to voice if it makes me wonder later someone else will wonder too.
Here's the rub. If *you* can't sell them, what make you think a charity can? These are worthless to a charity and engender a lousy donation.

The FMV is only what someone will pay cheque. If nobody wants these things, you should bring them to the dump.
