Taxes Questions and Answers

As a single parent surrounded by Canada, is at hand a better road to calcuate my taxes?

I typically claim my son as a dependant, but I was told that I should directory as "head of household" and treat him as a partner. Could someone clarify whether this is possible or allowed?
Thanks!

Answers: You can claim him as an eligible Dependant which used to be call equivalent to spouse, It will give you more of a assumption and more of the benefits like cctb ect. Only one parent can claim this so within joint custody situations, it have to be worked out
There is no such thing as "chief of the household" in Canada. Your son is an equivalent to spouse for tariff purposes, that is the best process to claim him in Canada.

If i made nine hundred dollars last year and i claim one child what should i get back on my taxes?

Answers: $600 from the tax rebate stimulus plan just passed by congress. $300 for you and $300 for your child. This presumes that you file a 2007 tax return. In addition to this, you will also receive any taxes you paid plus qualify for the EIC (Earned Income Credit) for low income taxpayers. Good luck.
If you only made nine hundred dollars last year, you should get back anything that was taken out of your paychecks for withholding.

You might qualify for the Earned Income Credit as well. Check here to see if you do:

Tax Rebate/Stimulus?

If you owe taxes from previous years, will they keep my export tax rebate from the stimulus. I know if I get any type of compensation for taxes, they will keep that.

Answers: Yes Wallie, they will hold on to it as they should. It is only fair-minded that they recover ancient due taxes before sending alien refunds out.
The finishing time they did this (2001 I believe) they kept my stimulus check because my ex owed the IRS from a business he owned years before I even met him.

So, more than predictable yes, they will keep it.
