Is it more beneficial to wallet taxes as one or separately?

My husband and I are young, we don't construct a whole lot of money - combined probably in the region of $20,000 a year, we are planning to go rear legs to college this summer/fall to earn the rest of our degrees. We hold only be married since July 07 so we are pretty new to adjectives this, in your assessment would it be more beneficial for us to file mutually or separately on taxes?

Good luck!
Jointly... The tax ruling is written to discourage Married filing separatley (MFS) filers.

MFS filers are disallowed for several credits and deductions... And the levy rates are just plain greater... On top of that, the IRS audits more MFS than any other group...

1099-MISC for service rendered, but not a "business"?

Hi, I have worked for a company later year to provide my expertise in reorganizing their files, and doing some book-keeping work (and worked on a few projects). I am not a registered business owner, but instead I provided a service. Last week, I received a 1099-MISC from that company, and from doing some research, it appears that I need to directory a 1040 schedule C, along beside a 1040 SE. My question is, can I record a scedule C, even though I have never registered (and packed paperwork with county, city, state) myself a a business owner end year? Thank you in credit!

Answers: The answer is yes, you must file out a Schedule C. For the Federal ID number, you would use your SS instead of the FEIN a ordinary registered business would use. I get this adjectives the time. However, since you are filing a diary C, if you incurred any expenses, claim them. Good luck
Just file the programme C and SE.

If you live in California, the state will ask why you weren't a registered business, but most places won't ask.
