What is the benifit to a housing allowance if you are a minister?
My husband is a minister and has a $20,000 housing allowance, which he have to prove every year he spent that money on housing. We can't afford to spend $20,000 a year buying things for our house and know few people who can! Why is that a benifit?Answers:
As a minister, your husband pays both Federal Income Tax and Self-Employment taxes on his income. The Housing allowance is deductible from income (and not reported on W-2 Box 1) for federal income import tax purposes. If you spend more than $20,000, then you've save federal taxes on $20,000 of income. If you only spent $15,000, next just donate $5,000 to line 7 of your Form 1040.
It may not give the impression of being that beneficial to have that big of a housing allowance, but if you a short time ago had a $7,500 allowance and spent $15,000, you don't catch to subtract the extra $7,500 you spent from the income. It's best to have too ample of an allowance and add parts not spent spinal column to the income than have too small of an allowance and not capture the full benefit.
Hope this helps.
Other Answers:
Keep your recipts for EVERYTHING. Right down to foot soap & toilet paper. That may serve. Best guess anyways.
It is non-taxable income. Count your blessings. He's a minister.
Let god provide.
It's not always a benfit.. my father is a minister and he get's a terrifically small housing allowance. It is good to enjoy one to make repairs on the rectory though not righteous for much else. My parent's house needs repairs and they can use the allowance to reward for some of it. $20,000 doesn't get you too much for your house.. It would be better if churches give an allowance to help BUY a home. My dad be given $230,000 to buy a house but in our town's bazaar, you'd get a roach-fest for that amount.

when you directory an extension on your charge returns can they turn it down?
if you owe money and you file an extention as to grasp more time to get the money can they deny that extention?Answers:
When you record an extension, it doesn't give you more time to income any taxes you owe. The IRS rules say that you own to pay any money you owe beside the request for an extension.
All the extension does it to give you more time to complete and record your return.
If you need time to discharge what you owe, you should call the IRS **immediately** and arrange a donation plan. If you wait, you will purely have to reward more penalties.
The number is 1-8OO-829-1040.
Other Answers:
they will not turn it down.
regardless of wheather you directory an extension or not if you owe money you have to wage it by April 15th. If you do not they will charge you interest and penalties from April 15th and those can be VERY steep.
One entity to look into is an installment plan. Say you have a $5K debt you can reward $200 p/m (but you still get charged interest and they will hang on to your refunds surrounded by coming years until the dept is paid rotten in full). If you evasion on this they will place a levy and lien on your assets and could end up selling your stuff if you dont retribution them. When you fill out the installment agreement you distribute in a check for as much as you can next to it. It will then appropriate about 3 months for them to proccess the form (during which time you dont discharge them). Once they accept the agreement they will any do a direct debit or you will have to distribute in the check yourself every month.
It may be a better theory to put the bill on a Credit card or get a loan fromt eh dune to pay it bad in full. Interest on a CC or loan may be like mad less than interest from the IRS - and wouldnt you to some extent have a debt next to the bank over the IRS!
Another preference is an "Offer in Compromise". This is roughly a situation where you might owe them vote $100,000 but can only afford to payment $30,000. You tell them that you cant afford it, prove it, and cross your fingers. If they adopt your OIC you pay the $30,000 and your debt is over and salaried for. They do an Offer in Compromise because contained by their eyes, collecting some of the money is better than collecting none of it.
the IRS is actually pretty friendsly and assured to deal beside once you do it right. If they send you any notice call them the NEXT daytime to discuss it. You never want to leave a message from the IRS sitting on the shelf. They are willing to work next to you to make things work out.
The whole entity with extensions is you can folder for one but it's only for the file of your taxes. if you know you're going to owe them moeny, you HAVE to send them some by April 15th irregardless. They will put you on a ridiculous sum plan that never pays down the interest.

What is the difference surrounded by married file mutually vs. married file seperately? Income be 35,000 surrounded by 2005.?
Our income was $35,000 second year. She's a stay at home mom.Answers:
You will want to file reciprocated unless she owes taxes. The standard deduction for MFJ is 10,000 and MFS is 5,000. You will also attain the 3,200 exemption for her that you would loose if you filed separately. If she did not work and have no EARNED income there is no benefit for you to directory separately! I hope this helps
Other Answers:
I believe that it costs MORE to folder married separately than married jointly, by something resembling a couple thousand bucks. If I remember right, having done this once, it be the difference between getting a refund and have to pay a couple hundred dollars rear to the IRS. If you want my advice, DON'T directory separately. You will get more money final by filing in somebody`s company. And if you have kids, don't forget to claim their daycare costs, even if they are care for at home. I think you can claim up to $2,500 per kid.

How do I prepare to become an IRS Enrolled Agent and interested my own import tax practice? I do not own a tariff perspective.
Answers:
It won't be easy. I believe the enrol agent status was created so that retired IRS agents, who enjoy a wealth of experience but do not own credentials as attorneys or CPAs, could qualify to prepare returns and represent taxpayers in audits. Some of the best practitioners jump down into this category.
Now let me inform you about my own experience. I am a attorney, graduated from an Ivy League Law School (magna), and hold practiced tax for over 30 years contained by famous regulation firms and CPA firms. I have be a tax professor within law school and advisor to many of the largest corporations contained by the world.
If I had walk in to pilfer the enrolled agent exam cold, I would own failed miserably.
I established to take the enrol agent exam a couple of years ago because I was moving to a different part of a set of the country and didn't want to have to steal the bar exam on the double. Fortunately, the IRS makes departed exams available for candidates to study from. I in a flash discovered that I didn't know the answers to a majority of the questions on bygone exams. This was because the exam focuses on issues that are high-status to individual taxpayers, partnerships, and small businesses (including S corporations), whereas my experience be in advise large corporations.
There are commercial courses available that will give somebody a lift you through prior years' exams and give you the answers and, more importantly, the explanations for the answers. Many of the question on each exam are repeats of, or variation of, questions on olden exams, so studying in this instrument is very dutiful. I took such a course on a self-study basis. In the running out, I passed the exam with a highly high chalk up on my first attempt. However, I don't know how I would have passed, even next to the prep course, if I didn't have seriously of tax experience losing me.
Several people who took the exam at alike time I did were human resources of a very voluminous and well-known rates preparation company. My recommendation to you would be to stir to work for such a company and spend a couple of years familiarizing yourself beside the return preparation process and with the charge problems commonly faced by individuals and small businesses. They may even train you for the enrol agent exam and pay for you to rob it.
When the time is right, then you may be capable of buy a franchise from one of the big companies, or strike out on your own.
Other Answers:
Hi Scott, as Taxguru says it wont be undemanding. I am including this link which should guide you to the information you are looking for. Yes you can transport the exam with no prior export tax experience. I would guess that if you study the IRS recommended reading materials for one solid year you can pass the exam. The most insulting parts of the exam imo are those covering corporations and partnerships. You can do it Scott if you want it discouraging enough. Good luck!
Jeff

What is the amount of estate rates contained by the US?
Answers:
I think your cross-examine is about how the estate excise works. Generally, only estates surrounded by excess of $2,000,000 are taxed. If the estate is within excess of $2,000,000, the estate will be taxed at graduate rates that reach roughly speaking 50% for large estates. With proper planning the impact of the estate duty can be minimized.
Other Answers:
You really need to sit down next to a tax attorney until that time concluding no estate tax will be due if youre close to the 2 million smudge or if the decedent made taxable gifts during life - the applicable credit amount is reduced.
Furthermore, states also palm off "death taxes", some have their own free-standing estate due like Ohio, while others enjoy an inheritance tax similar to Pennsylvania. If you face no federal excise, you could still face a state duty.
