Taxes Question and Answers

how long can one hang around back reporting his personal income excise to IRS?

Some pple say you can record your income tax once contained by three years, I don't think this is true if you owe IRS. Anyone please?

Answers:
You are supposed to database your taxes every year, on or before the file deadline, including extensions. You can file anytime after that as all right, but the return will not be considered on time. If you owe any duty, it is due by April 15th, regardless of whether or not you have an extension. The extension is on the dot to file, not time to rate.

If you have not file past returns, you can still record them now, as long as the IRS have not prepared a return for you for that year. If they have, and it's be less than 3 years, you can wallet an amended return.

Other Answers:
the longes time is two yers.
If you owe it is due on April 15th, unless you get an extension. You claim a return for up to 3 years, but if you don't pay every year, you can facade fines.
the deadline for filing 1040 return for 2005 income is April 17, 2006.
You can directory every three years, that is,if you are due a compensation for each year, otherwise,if you give attention to you owe for each year, when you do progress to file you will owe penalty and interest.

Is a charitable contribution deductable the year the check is written? Or the year it's cashed?

I donated money to a charity and mailed the check on 12/29. The charity cashed the check on 1/6. They are claiming that it's a donation within tax year 2006, but I be certain I could reduce by in the year I released the check.

Answers:
"The unconditional transference or mailing of a check which subsequently clears surrounded by due course will constitute an effective contribution on the date of transfer or mailing."

Treasury Regulation box 1.170A-1(b).

As I read this provision, if the check is delivered by mitt, it is the date of delivery that controls; if it is mail, it is the date of mailing.

Other Answers:
Probably go by postmarked date. Don't quote me on that though.

I doubt that they will write you a taking in the year formerly they received the money. Sorry. You can still claim it, though, as you made the donation the year before. Provide a record with your charge return stating that the money was sent within 2005, with the account in 2006.

You are both dealing near a Cash accounting method, and it is legal for both party to claim the money the way you describe. Cash accounting say that I incur the charge the day I post the check, the money is no longer mine to rely upon using.

My fiance have not file taxes surrounded by 10 years. How do we bar this?

We started a business recently, and I received a request from the IRS to repay back taxes and penalty from 1995/1996. I knew he hadn't salaried last year, though he said he'd remunerated estimated taxes -- it turns out he is having the most minuscule amount possible taken out of his paycheck. I did his taxes this year, and he owes a LOT. I gave him an ultimatum to fix the IRS issue or we won't be married contained by September. Yet he seems to be within denial (he doesn't know that I know about the full 10 years of not filing). He half-heartedly desires to fix it (!) -- to the extent of what I know. I don't think he understand the extent of the financial burden this will be to BOTH of us. I want to protect myself -- I'm squeaky clean. My identify is the only given name on the house, etc, so nothing can be taken away. We are roughly speaking to relocate and buy another house in Texas, a common-law state (6 months). Am thinking he desires to file for liquidation before we're married. But he doesn't want to ruin is appropriate credit. Sigh.

Answers:
Why not call a toll attorney (some offer a free first consultation). Find out from him/her what you inevitability to do, how to handle it and what can take place to your fiance if he gets caught.

Many times, a tariff attorney can work out a deal next to the IRS where you lone pay a fraction of what you owe. As I see it, contacting an attorney, even if you own to pay, is probably the best course to go.

Other Answers:
If you marry him beforehand he fixes this nightmare, it becomes your nightmare. If he truly requirements a future near you he should fix it. Do not move to Texas with him as his wife or you will lose everything. This sounds of late a little to suspicious. It sounds approaching he knows the extent of his problem and purely wants you to bail him out. He is not fully developed enough to be married. Honey put your foot down, tolerate him know that you know and are serious about not getting married, next stick with it or you will hold to live with this problem your integral life.

There are plenty of services out there that will supply you a free consultation by phone.

Giving to Charity and export tax deduction?

How much or what precentage would you have to donate to charity to trademark the deduction worh it on your taxes

Answers:
It depends on your other deduction. If you're single, you need to come up near $5000 in deduction (mortgage interest, charity, taxes paid, etc). If you don't run into this requirement, there is no import tax benefit to donate. There is still the moral benefits of donating, though.
You have to remember that donating does not put aside you money. The deduction that you procure saves you the import tax portion of the donation. If you donate $500 and your rate is 20%, you get a $100 rates benefit, but since you paid the $500, the network is -$400. You don't donate for the break, you donate b/c it is a good entry to do, and one benefit is you lessen your tax burden.

Other Answers:
Depends on your toll situation. If you are filing 1040-EZ, afterwards you are taking the standard deduction (based on your used to gross) and not itemizing your donations. Hence, the amount (or percentage) you donate to charity is not relevant. If you are filing 1040, Schedule A, your are itemizing deduction, and in that covering, any deduction would be appropriate and be considered a deduction. If you want a specific arithmetic, figure your standard speculation based on your on the same wavelength gross (see tax tables). Then amount out if you have donated to charity contained by excess of the standard deduction.

The most common itemized deduction include:
Mortgage Interest
Gifts to Charity
State/Local Taxes

Total them up...to itemize, you need over $5,000 of deduction if your single, $10,000 if filing Joint, and 7,300 if Head of Household.

How did you attain your taxes done this year?

I just thought I would ask this cross-examine to see if places such as H&R Block were losing business due to self preperation.

Answers:
I used H&R Block within Chicago (Lincoln Park). I had complicated toll issues because I had only just changed jobs, sold a mutual fund, and moved from one city to another. My inventive try at using TurboTax returned a strange result--it suggested that I owed several thousand dollars, despite my expectation that I should be getting a refund. The import tax professional I worked with at H&R Block be very practical and when he finished my taxes, it turned out that I was entitled to a significant repayment after all. Well worth the $250 it cost to own my taxes prepared.

Other Answers:
