Under-the-table quiz...?
Question:
My gf just started working at a local bar/night club as a shot-girl and waitress. Apparently, the exotic owner is just hiring local college girls departed and right without even checking their driver's license (he hired a 17 yr old to serve alcohol). The guy intends to pay envelope under the table. He also said that he doesn't consideration if they take a few drinks while working.
My quiz is: is this common? How unofficial is it? And most importantly, could my gf get surrounded by trouble with the IRS etc. for not paying taxes on ANYTHING?
I'm 19 and I've solely ever worked in pizza transport, so I don't know how most of these places do business.Thanks.
Answers:
What he is doing is illegal, but I am more concerned that these immature women may be taken advantage of. This sounds approaching a shady operation.
Be a good friend and urge her and her friend to find other job. I don't think they are locked where they are working.
Persons who work for tips entail to keep track of them and report them to their employer within any month that their tips exceed $10. Unreported tip income also needs to be reported on the charge return, and social security and medicare obligation to be paid on those tips.
If she is a dependent, the maximum wages and tips she can earn lacking paying any taxes in 2007 is $5,350.
I don't know how unconstitutional the under the table discharge is, but if he is hiring under age girls to flog alcohol the place is going to get shut down sooner or after that, and I don't think your girlfriend is going to want to be nearby for that.
Yes your girlfriend can get within trouble. I had a friend that adjectives of a sudden this year his bosses company want out of business he worked for him like two years past than. Because he went out of business he have to report things, and of course adjectives of a sudden my friend gets a %7,000.00 bill from the state of income taxes
Most bar are like this. They wage under the table to keep hold of from having to payment into Medicare and Unemployment for their employees. If your GF get caught by the IRS for not paying taxes on her earnings afterwards she could get into trouble, but contained by reality everyone does it and only just anyone ever reports their earnings. Tell your GF to net sure to ID all her patrons so she is not involved within a underage sting or she could loose her job, be fined and possibly obverse jail time. If this establishment is hiring underage girls to serve alcohol and she feel uncomfortable near it she can report them anonymously to her local liquor commission or better business bureau.
Well, in this country (UK) the employer is at show disapproval, if they were caught I suppose the girls might hold to pay a fine (but that's merely pure conjecture).
It's illegal, she's not taking taxes out of her rate. If the IRS were to find out they would charge her a big fine and walk through her bank documentation to determine how much she owes. I believe it will stay on her record for 7 years which won't be honest if she tries to get a nouns. Also I believe in adjectives states its illegal to hire a minor to bar alcohol, the owner can get his licence revoked for angelic giving drinks to a minor.
Hope that helps!
This open up a world of problems for your girlfriend and her "employer". If the IRS finds out, they will at minimum assess interest and penalties if she doesn't record and pay her taxes. They could wallet criminal charges of fraud and tax evasion if they feel it was right.
Her employer would also wind up contained by trouble with the IRS, because, I'd hope your gf would cooperate next to them and answer all their question. He's responsible for paying taxes on her employment as well.
The simple agency to avoid any problems, is to contact the IRS to send within quarterly estimated tax payments. She would be acting as an independent contractor, and would hold to keep track of what she's rewarded. She doesn't need to do too much special. Her SS number is her taxpayer ID number and her taxes will be paid through her 1040. She'll also entail to include schedule C and scedule SE next to her return. The schedule SE rolls to row 58 of the 1040 and the schedule C rolls to smudge 12. Make sure she keeps track of any expenses she have for working there. Any miles she drives on her vehicle to get to and from work, and a portion of the depreciation are adjectives tax deductible. Although at 17, I'm assuming that's her age, she's not plausible to reach the treshhold to itemize her deduction, so the $3,400 standard deduction would apply.
That's a moment ago the tax portion I'm afraid. I know it's not endorsed someone under 21 to be serving alcohol, but I don't know who's liable for that. Certainly the employer is, I simply don't know about her. A legal representative would be better able to answer that cross-examine. I won't insult your intelligence about the consumption of alcohol by a minor.
Good luck to you both.
Ok - near is a lot more than meet the eye. You know that there is something amiss near not paying taxes but there is another consideration that you may not own considered.
If you and your girlfried go to buy a house or rent an apartment the innkeeper will want to see a copy of your tax returns to verify that you can afford the rent. She will not hold any income, or return, so you'll be stuck. I have see this happen plentiful times, esp. with young at heart couples that go to buy their first house.
The excise issues -
Regardless if the income is paid lower than the table Internal Revenue Code section 61 states that everything is income unless the code provides an exception. You alrready know that the income is taxable.
If you do not database a return the statute of limitations does not "toll". In other words the IRS can go wager on for as long as they want to assess taxes, penalties, and interest. If you wallet a fradulent return you have comitted a criminal accomplishment (read the little disclaimer below your signature on a form 1040). If you file and underreport your income by more than 25% the IRS can dance back 6 years. Less than 25% underreported 3 years.
You're young at heart, but don't be stupid. The fact that the owner let underage people drink at work should be the biggest clue.
Taking below the table wages, with the intent of not reporting them on your taxes, is a felony type excise evasion offense. The employer is also acting illegally but he know better but, due to lax enforcement, is willing to hold the risk that the IRS or State will not audit him.
My advice to you is to own her take the payments but report them on her excise return as income. She can make $10,000 or so per year in need any tax liability but, more importantly, it is the right item to do.
The owner is doing a number of things that are wrong, hiring someone underage to serve alcohol and paying under the table. And if the inhabitants who work for them don't file a duty return and pay their taxes on the income, they are also doing something off the record.
At such point as the owner gets busted for this, and he most predictable will, the "employees" will probably also get busted, and later be in trouble near the IRS. Your gf would be a lot better past its sell-by date to steer clear of this sleaze and find a job somewhere else.
There is a can of worms here that you don't want open.
Tell your gf to find another job. The risk of getting busted is not worth it.

Is nearby Sales Tax on cement?
Question:
When i buy it from a cement supply house they charge me sales levy but when i buy it from home depot or lowes they dont. My accountant told me to be careful since i am responsible for paying my taxes.
Answers:
Generally, sale tax is due on cement because it is perceptible personal property.
Why are you buying cement is the more pertinent question. Are you a contractor? Do you resell cement? There could be heaps reasons that you could be buying cement withbeing charged sale tax. If you presented Lowes or HD a toll exemption certificate, specifically why they are not charging you sales import tax. Next time you make a purchase from them, you can ask why they are not charging you sale tax. If you call for to correct them, you can always repeal any tax exemtp status that you own with them.
Yes. Everything get taxed. Are you sure Home Depot or Lowes don't charge you duty at the register? That's odd if they don't.
Do you own a sales excise exemption certificate on report at HD and Lowes, but not at your supply house? If you are not reselling the cement and charging sales toll you are responsible to pay the sale tax to the state. If you charge sale tax the amount you remit can be reduced by the amount of rates you pay to your supply house.
When do I folder my income duty form?
Question:
I live in Illinois, I hold a sales export tax ID number, I buy items from drop shippers and sell them on eBay. I am basically a regular guy, not a corporation or anything like that. I may cause all of my income on eBay. I hold to fill out an ‘IL-1040’ income tariff form. I do not know many things going on for this form. Does anyone know how much income within the year I am supposed to formulate in decree to fill out this form? Or perchance I should ask: when do I fill out this form within the year? Does anyone know what the IRS tax percentage is that I subtract from my income? My phone is broken, hence, this question. I go to the IRS website but found nothing on the IL-1040.
Answers:
www.iltax.com
You overrun out your IL income tax form immeadiately after you permeate out your 1040 for federal taxes. Your Adjusted Gross Income found at the bottom of page 1 or the top of page 2 of your 1040 is the starting point to filling out your IL-1040. Then you build certain additions and subtractions to numeral your base income. Then you discount $2000 for every personal exemption. That comes to your taxable income. Multiply by 3% and that is your levy liability. Calculate your payments and credits to determine if you are going to get a reimbursement or owe any money. Then add to your liability or subtract from your refund any donations that you will to make.
Thats it within a nutshell. Use the URL above to find out more.
BTW, the IL-1040 was due on April 17, 2007. If you owe any money, afterwards add interest and penalty to your tax liability.
How do i qualify for exempt taxes?
Question:
I'am trying to see what's the proper way to record exempt on my taxes.
Answers:
Do you mean directory exempt on your W-4? If so, to qualify you would have have no income tax liability surrounded by 2006. And, you expect to have no income rates liabilty in 2007.
Assuming that you are single beside no dependents you can earn $8750 this year without have to pay any federal taxes ($5350 if someone can clain you as a dependent).
If my assumption is incorrect, later the only path to be exempt from taxes is to not earn any money or spend any money.
What makes you believe you should be exempt from paying taxes ? I paid for over 60 years and the final five I have be tax free, you ask why ?, it is because I don't earn adequate to pay any taxes except sale tax etc, no Federal Income toll.
Maybe when you get into your 80's you can do it also.
If you are a full time college student you can directory exempt. Check exempt on your w-2 & on your state form, if you have a state income rates.
My fiance is a R.N. and going to school full-time for Nurse Practioner, & have been going to college & work for almost 5yrs. now & her accountant get here all the money she does retribution in taxes. Granted she does settle them, but as a full-time student she gets adjectives the money she paid contained by taxes back after she files.
Steve's answer is correct. Pay no attention to Fab - mortal a full time student has nought to do with owing rates or not - it's your income that determines if you owe tax. If you wallet exempt and aren't, you could be subject to a $500 fine, plus whatever taxes, plus penalty, are due for the year.
Would you recommend the British Virgin Islands as your choice of Tax Haven Country - among heaps others?
Question:
Many International Businessmen register theirs as "Offshore Company" for the Package-of-Incentives attributed to Tax Haven Countries. Non-Disclosure of Ownership, Tax-free benefits, unrestricted FX On-Line Banking are some of the many.
Answers:
Doesn't really event if you are a US citizen or resident. You are legally obligated to report adjectives income from all sources world-wide and pay cheque any taxes due. The IRS has ways of determining your income if you don't cooperate.
One of their most powerful arms is simply estimating your income based upon observable items such as lifestyle, lolly flow in and out of US bank or foreign banks that DO cooperate beside the IRS, etc. They'll levy the tax that they give attention to is due (with penalties and interest of cours) and it's up to YOU to prove otherwise. Needless to influence, their estimates will usually be WAY high compared to realness so this is a major incentive to come verbs after the fact or, better even so, play by the rules in the first place.
huh?
How much taxes will i hold to take-home pay if im 16?
Question:
How much taxes will be taken out of what I make if I'm 16. I hear it would be less than regular taxes or something..this would be within massachusetts
Answers:
Being 16 doesn't change anything - it's how much money you put together that determines your tax rate. The entity who told you that you'd pay smaller number because you'r 16 is mistaken.
I was pretty sure it be nothing..I could be wrong
Taxes aren't levy by age. It is determined by how much you make. Since most 16-year olds don't trademark a lot of money, they tend to earnings lower tax rates than the average tax-payer.
For federal taxes, if your income is below the minimum, you don't retribution any federal taxes.
Just Be!
Basically, you are subject to the same rates laws as everyone else. If you have $1,000,000 in taxable income this year, next you will be taxed approaching anyone else that had equal taxable income.
Your age has no good posture on your taxes.

Anyone know how much seasonal import tax preparers breed at H&R block for those 4 months of work?
Question:
I've heard it's minimum wage plus commission, but I've also hear that the work is anywhere from 29-80 hours a week, so that's a huge difference in pay packet. I was hoping that some one that's worked as a seasonal tariff preparer for H&R block could tell me how much they build on average for the 4 months (along with average hours a week). I'm majoring within accounting, so I thought this would be good experience, but I enjoy a job I love already, so I don't want to do this year round (I enjoy 2 young children and I would never see them!! :)
Answers:
I've of late completed my first season with H&R Block. I enjoy it and it's a good fit for me.
First of adjectives, during the peak segment of the season (Last third of January to about the middle of February), I worked every light of day (5-10 pm in the evening and 15 hours on the weekend). It be a bit hard on my house. After peek completed, the hours were cut hindmost to a low of about 10 hours per week. They picked up again to hand the end of the season to going on for 30 per week. Since I alerayd have a full time opportunity, I worked nights and weekends exclusivly.
Just so you're aware I (and everyone else) have to sign a non-compete clause, which stated that when I separate service I could not prepare a tax return for an H&R block client for two years in a 25 mile radius of the city limits of the town I worked within. Thus, if I didn't like working for them I can't lately go work at a different import tax company.
As mentioned before, the position is commission based. They give a small draw (approx $6.50 to $7 an hour) against your commission, however. Your actually compensation starts at 19% of the rewarded return volume, and 15% of the optional Peace-of-Mind insurance program. During closing tax season, I completed approximately 110 returns and made $4000 gross. Keep within mind I'm in Oklahoma, which have the lowest cost of living of any area, so I would expect the compensation to be sophisticated elsewere. Besides the completed returns, I\I also had several returns I could not complete because they either walk (due to the cost of preparation and/or they had already done it next to a tax software program and newly wanted a second opinion) or I refuse to complete due to obvious fraud.
Least you consider I'm negative though, It be a really nice fit for myself. I didn't have to verbs about issues that might go on if I tried doing tax returns on my own, such as liability issues. I also didn't own to do marketing, and didn't have to invest my own money paid for by the office. When I ran into issues I have not dealt near before (IE, Indian exclusion) in attendance were a few seasoned preparers to consult and advise on how to switch the issue. I always tried to donate my clients their money worth, and because of the little things I did (such as advice for the future) I be able to receive about 60% to sign up for an appointment near me next tariff season (a year in advance). These are clients I won't enjoy to share with the other preparers within my office subsequent year.
In order to return with hired on, they'll require you to take a uncomplicated income tax class class. I've get coupons I'd be willing to dispatch that work in Division 65 (Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas). You also can contact the local organization and they should offer you a discount on the class. I didn't know this and compensated the full price. The class has completly changed tis year. Previously it be on paper and pencil, and required give or take a few 3 hours outside of class for each instructional hour to complete adjectives the exercies and reviews. Now however, they are advertising little work outside of class time, and you'll be erudition to prepare the returns on the same computer system you'll use on the post. Around here, the classes start in September.
We also have interns, which were vitally college students majoring in accounting who be doing the returns for not only bread, but college credit as well. They be treated exactly the same as 1st year preparers, including human being required to sign the non-compete agreement and the same compensation.
Hopefully this help answer your questions. Feel free to contact me if you own any follow-up questions.
You earn a draw against commission. New preparers probably start around $9 per hour as a draw. How much you downfall up earning depends on lots factors including what type of organization you are in. In the inner cities, the returns tend to be easier and their are more of them. In the outer suburbs, within are fewer returns but they are more complex.
1st year preparers own it the toughest as you have even so to build up your client base. Hopefully, you disappear an impression on those empire whose returns that you do and they "request" you the next year. If you are accurate, after five or six years, your client base is big and you spawn pretting good money.
Generally, most Block office will work around your schedule so how tons hours you want to put in is up to you.
Overall, it is not a unpromising paying part-time chore.
Is near a assets gain exemption within the US approaching contained by Canada if you trade a company?
Question:
I've been working surrounded by the US for a few years and paying US taxes. I have equity contained by a Canadian firm that maybe sold, potentially resulting surrounded by a large wealth gain. In Canada there is a 500k lifetime possessions gains rates exemption. Is there anything similar to this contained by the US? Being a Canadian citizen is there anyway to leverage that Cdn tariff exemption?
Thanks for your help.
Answers:
No. But in attendance is a reduced rate for capital gain taxes as opposed to regular income rates. But the transaction may not be subject to US tax; consult a tariff advisor on this.
Can I win a dishonestly withheld import tax discount fund if I own proof that it be burdened withheld?
Question:
Last year the state in which we reside, PA, refuse to give us our state settlement. They claimed that my husband was surrounded by arrears on his child support. Well that was absolutlely ridiculous! We call the state that the money actually go to, CO, and they confirmed with us that he be NOT in arrears.
This would own been the settlement we would have received within 2006.
So does anyone have any guidance? I mean, it wasn't a huge sum of money contained by the grand organism of things, but being a struggling relatives, it's a whole lot of money to us.
And considering he be current on his payments to the child, I don't think she get anything extra....so where did the money dance? Please help! Is adjectives lost?

You will file your appeal beside them. Their decision is final and cannot be appealed contained by any court. They'll issue a taxpayer assistance order. This should acquire things moving for you.
I'm not clear on what your exact problem is. If you are saying that PA confirms that your husband is NOT contained by arrears, didn't they say anything else going on for when you would get your settlement?
Youj are going to need something from the courts stating that you are not within arrears. take a copy of that to the levy office surrounded by Pa and file a claim.
Am a subcontractor doing a opportunity for a non-profit. Is some of the cost of the proj.elligible for a excise break?
Question:
If a job is done for a non-profit bureau and it costs $25,000, is any of that elligible for a tax break?
Answers:
if they are paying you for the project later no your cost are not tax-deductable, if you are doing the job for free as a charity contribution later the market-value of your services should be tax-deductable.
.
Only if you aren't charging them then it will adjectives be deductible.
I don't know for sure, but I would guess that the answer is "No." You're not donating your time, you're getting paid to do a career. The fact that you've be hired by a non-profit organization probably doesn't affect that.
But, similar to I said, I'm not sure...I'm just guessing on this one.
For whom?
The single tax break is that the non-profit might not hold to pay sale tax on the mission.
As far as your taxes, you are getting paid and taxes on the income will work newly like any other employment. If you are doing the job for free, your out of pocket expenses (NOT what you'd otherwise charge for the job) would be tax-deductible if they are a 501(c)3 enterprise.
Can i sue my due preparer if they go wrong to distribute me a copy of my duty information.?
Question:
I had a "freind" whos sister did my taxes for me this year. I enjoy been asking for months if she can tender me a copy of my information. I need that info if i ever achieve audited. Any ideas...Help please
Answers:
No, you can't sue over this. What would be the point? You should enjoy made sure you got a copy when you signed the documents. Send her a certified dispatch giving her 30 days to produce copies of the documents. If she didn't keep any, she can't facilitate you. You can get a photocopy from the rates office.
You should already enjoy a copy of yuor info, since you have a copy of your w-2's. If you give them to the friend then you screwed up, you can solitary sue if you paid fo rthe service. that would propose you have a taking for that service as well. you would also enjoy to call the IR and state due board for where you live and ask for your export tax infomation as ell to prove that you even filed. Good Luck
Sure, anyone can sue for anything they preference -- this is America after all! Collecting anything is an entirely different thing, however. At best you're only entitled to your actual damages. Since it costs $39.00 to win a copy of your return from the IRS, that's pretty much the limit of what you could get better.
If you want to sue someone for $39.00, knock yourself out. Me, I'd rather progress fishing.
People who have "a "freind" whos sister did my taxes" receive what they pay for! Those general public also get audited a bit frequently. Next year try using a tax professional. They are bonded contained by most states.
Urgent Question: How to fix the error for 2006 PA import tax that be already file?
Question:
I am living in Pennsylvania and working within Manhattan. On this April, I made a mistake to file my PA state levy. In order to acquire the credit back from NY state that I already compensated through my paychecks, I checked the PA state tax form's item 23 (Other Credit). Now the PA IRS asked me to submit an OC form for that item. Then I found that the right item I should check is item 22 ( Resident Credit) and attach a GS scheduling form. Now I don't how to fix this error. Is it ok for me to a moment ago submit a corrected PA state tax form next to the GS form? thanks awfully much

If they've already notified you that your return is underneath review and has a problem, file an amended return would not be the best way to solve the problem. Talk to someone and the PA department of revenue to find out how to proceed - nearby should be a number to call on the distinguish you got from them.
By the bearing, they aren't the PA IRS - IRS is just federal.
